🎶 I hope your week sounds like 2025 Role Model:
In this edition:
The benefits of starting with Reddit from a place of strategy and system
The exact operating system I delivered and presented to a client yesterday
Note: I’m looking for your feedback! Newsletter too long? Too boring? Too something else? Respond and let me know your thoughts so far or just say hi 🙋🏻♀️
Why do you need an operating system for Reddit?
Something I’ve found when talking to clients / potential clients is that while there is a ton of interest in Reddit marketing, there’s also a ton of hestitation driven either by fear/intimidation of the platform or inabilitity to prove channel viability to leadership for buy-in.
Starting with an operating system helps your team wrap its head around Reddit as an emerging marketing channel and quiets the fear and intimidation you or your leadership may feel about investing there.
With an operating system in your back pocket, you:
Remove the guesswork of where to engage, who should be engaging, and how to measure success
Show leadership that there is a way to test Reddit as a channel without blowing up your brand or wasting a ton of money
De-risk your brand through a set of guidelines that teach you how to thoughtfully engage
Tackle a new marketing channel with confidence because you know how to prove its value (go get that raiseeeee 🤑)
The exact Reddit operating system I delivered to a B2B enterprise company yesterday
Here’s what makes up my typical Reddit operating system:
🗺️ Subreddit ecosystem map
A multi-layered look at prioritized subreddits based on ICPs, opportunity, risk, etc.
📣 Conversation audit
Analysis of major themes, topics, community culture & norms across all prioritized subreddits.
👋 Brand role & POV framework
Shows what roles the brand should play in each subreddit and which POVs should inform any engagement.
🗣️ Voice & tone guide
Guidelines to ensure that any activity coming from branded accounts sounds native to each subreddit (and doesn’t sound too corporate).
👩⚖️ Channel governance guide
A full guide to actually operating, including team swim lanes, early success metrics to track, posting cadence by subreddit, risk & escalation guidelines, and more.
And now…Phase 2: We take our operating system and start executing 💪
What does it take to put this together? (Spoiler, you can steal it or I can do it for you)
Realistically, you could do this for your team over the course of about a month if you wanted with your company personas, brand guidelines, and some elbow grease. 💪
However, even with the help of AI tools, it still involves lots of human, manual analysis of subreddits and specific threads, as well as an understanding of how Reddit itself behaves as a platform and marketing channel, which is why lots of companies outsource it to folks like me.
If you steal my system, let me know how it goes!
If you’re interested in having me build this for your company, you can schedule a free discovery call to chat through your goals, ideal timeline, and budget.
Next week, we’ll do the deep dive on how to use Reddit responsibly for increasing your AI search visibility that I said we’d do this week until I got excited to share operating system. Hope to see you there 🫶
